Our Curriculum

At Kiddies Kottage Nurseries, our educators support children’s learning and development through planned, purposeful play. Children learn by leading their own play, and by taking part in play which is guided by adults. Our enabling environment shape children’s experiences which are essential for their development, learning, building their confidence as they learn to explore, problem-solve and relate to others.

Like all nurseries, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which sets the standards for learning and development for children birth to five years through seven key areas of learning. It also caters for children’s health and safety. Together, these inter- connected areas help ignite children’s curiosity, enthusiasm for learning, building their capacity to learn, form relationships, thrive and ultimately preparing them for the next stage in their education.

1. Personal, Social and Emotional Development

This area helps children learn how to build relationships, manage their feelings, and develop confidence. They learn to share, take turns, become independent, and understand their own emotions and those of others.

2. Communication and Language

Children develop their speaking, listening, and understanding skills. Through stories, conversations, songs, and play, they learn to express themselves, ask questions, and understand what others are saying.

3. Physical Development

This focuses on helping children improve their movement, coordination, and motor skills. Activities include running, climbing, balancing, drawing, cutting, and learning healthy habits such as handwashing and self-care.

4. Literacy

Children begin to develop early reading and writing skills. They listen to stories, recognise sounds in words, learn about letters, and start making marks, drawing, and writing simple words.

5. Mathematics

Through play and practical activities, children learn about numbers, counting, shapes, patterns, measuring, and problem-solving. They start to understand simple maths concepts in fun and meaningful ways.

6. Understanding the World

This area helps children explore and make sense of the people, places, technology, and environment around them. They learn about nature, different cultures, communities, and how things work building their cultural capital.

7. Expressive Arts and Design

Children use creativity and imagination through activities such as art, music, dance, role play, and building. This helps them express their ideas, feelings, and experiences in different ways.
